The Black Drawings were begun around the same time as the poker card works.  While not actually three-dimensional, I wanted these drawings to have the physicality and presence of an object.  So, I caked the paper surface with grease pencil and carved into it with a printmaker's gouge to reveal the white layer underneath.  Most of the works have an irregular, non-rectilinear shape that pokes fun at the idea of illusion in traditional life drawing.
